On Monday November 9th 2015 we had a full card of dogs heading to Ilaunmore for an Open Stake, by kind permission of Mr.Michael Manke. Illaunmore is the venue for the 2015 IKC Spaniel Championship. Our Judges for the day are both very well known on the trialing circuit, Tony O’Brien (A) and Mick Finglas (B).

Due to the very poor weather conditions, the Steward of the Beat Vincent Kyne put his Stops in place on the shoreline without delay and the Hon. Sec. also got all the formalities out of the way promptly.

The team of Guns was made up by Tom Brennan, Ricky Cashin, Ray Fogarty & Enda Cassen who displayed an extremely high standard of safety and marksmanship.

This trial also marked our first event with our new sponsors Kronch. The Club would like to thank them for coming on board and anyone who wishes to order some of their products or request information should contact the local agent Willie Edgar.

There had only been one shoot on the Island prior to this trial but the birds were not hanging around and were running ahead all the time.

This was the first trial which was run by this Club since the changes to the water rule, as a result one of the dogs in the awards had not already gained Championship points and was therefore the only dog required to be tested at the water.

In their summing up both Judges said the standard of this stake was very high with very little separating the top dogs.

Following the Awards and in accordance with the recent change to the water rule, Pat Brennan’s bitch Clodahill Layla had to be tested at the water as she had enough points gained in the field towards her title of Field Trial Champion.
