Our Novice Stake took place on Sunday 1st December 2013 in good testing woodland for running spaniels, in the lovely surroundings of Lough Cutra Castle by very kind permission of the Landowner, Susie Gwynn – Jones & Mr. Simon Probin (Gamekeeper).
The Judges for the day were all well experienced spaniel men Tim Dennehy (A), Richie Power (B) & Ricky Cashin (C)
As the pheasants were a bit wary and jumpy, the Steward of the Beat Paul O’Brien was a little bit anxious that they would not hang around for us, but his concerns were soon laid to rest with this turning out to be a really good quality trial with hopefully some of the Stars of the future on show. The game was very swiftly dealt with by our team of very safe and accurate Guns, Paul O’Brien, Frank Fitzgerald, David O’Brien & Ivan McAlister.
After the Judges made up their books they came up with a popular winner who had given a display of power hunting in cover.
The Hon. Secretary thanked our Host and the Gamekeeper for allowing us access to the Estate and commented on how well supported the trial had been by both competitors and spectators. He thanked everybody who gave up their time to help out in any way on the day.
He also highlighted how grateful the Club was to our generous sponsors Massbrook Petfoods for their continued support.
